‘Area Boys’ have a Field Day, as Mystery Fire Razes Homes, Shops in Warri
Miscreant popularly known as ‘area boys’ have a field day recently stealing property of fire victims pretending giving a helping hand. In the process residents of the affected building were made up of traders and resident alleged to have lost million of Naira.
The mysterious fire which started fire on Friday razed down over 22 rooms and shops in the Iyara area of Warri , Delta State.
Our Correspondents, who visited the scene of the inferno in the early hours of Saturday March 2, report that the fire started at about 3pm Friday March 1 from neighboring zinc constructed shops and rapidly spread to other buildings and shops as a result of electrical connection linking the adjourning buildings.
Landlady of the 22 rooms’ block building , Mrs. Patricia Akwara who was still in apparent shock when newsmen visited the scene stated that she was at home cooking at about 3pm when she heard people shouting “ fire, fire”
According to her, it was in a bid to put off the fire with water in the neighboring zinc buildings that they surprisingly saw the inferno taking over their roof.
A young lady whose boutique was razed, Onos Vincent , explained that she fell on the ground on getting to the scene of the inferno after she was alerted at the market that her shop was on fire.
According to her, the few items that were rescued from her shop were stolen by unidentified area boys.
Our Correspondents report that household items, sewing machines and other valuables estimated at millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno which lasted for several hours despite efforts to put it off.
