Delta State: Abavo Indigenes Drag Dethrone Monarch to Court
Over 40,000 indigenes of Abavo in Ika South LGA of Delta State have called for a legal pronouncement declaring one Mr Oche Irunema as an illegal occupant of the throne of Obi of Abavo.
It would be recalled that the Abavo people on July 4, 2012 dethroned their traditional ruler, Obi Oche Irunema, having detected a foul play in the emergence of his father, Obi Aje Irunema Okubo as the Obi of Abavo.
Consequent upon the dethronement of Oche Irunema, the Abavo people crowned and enthroned HRH Obi Chukwuka Ekhator Jegbefume 111, as the Obi of Abavo and the rightful heir to the throne.
Presenting his case at the High Court, Agbor on Tuesday, Feb 10 Counsel to the petitioners, Charles Adoga SAN, prayed the court to commence the hearing, having adequately served all parties copies of the originating summon.
The presiding Judge, Justice D.C Maidoh, however, adjourned the case till March 20th for the commencement of hearing.
The Petitioners are also praying the Court for “an Order compelling the Delta State Government to withdraw the staff of office given ti Mr Oche Irenuma as it was done in error”.
