Lagos Urhobo Chiefs Congratulate Omo-Agege Over His Election As Deputy Senate President


LAGOS JUNE 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Urhobo Chiefs resident in Lagos under the aegis of Urhobo Traditional Council of Chiefs Lagos have congratulated Senator (Obarisi) Ovie Omo-Agege on his election on the floor of the Red Chamber as the Deputy Senate President of the Ninth Senate of Nigeria.
Omo-Agege a member of All Progress Congress (APC) representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the Senate hailed from Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. He secured 68 votes in the election to defeat Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 37 votes.
Congratulating Omo-Agege in a statement signed by Secretary of Urhobo Traditional Council of Chiefs in Lagos, Chief Godspower Ikpimi, the Chiefs stated that the election of Omo-Agege as the second in command in the Red Chamber in the face of suffocating opposition was a demonstration and divine manifestation of the will of God in the affairs of men.
While rejoicing with Omo-Agege as the new Deputy Senate President, the group expressed its appreciation to the senators who deemed it fit to vote for Omo-Agege, a lawmaker from South-South, considered from a minority zone of the country.
The Chiefs recalled that there were no doubts in their mind that Omo-Agege would emerge victorious in the election hence his performances in the Senate for only four years placed him above his colleagues as the first Senator to sponsor over ten Bills in the 8th Assembly.
The group advised the Deputy Senate President to use his good office to attract Federal attention in term development to Urhobo Nation, Delta State and South-South region of Nigeria by providing industries that will provide employment to the teeming unemployed youths, infrastructural development, security, qualitative education and socio-economical development among others
The Chiefs equally urged him to use this opportunity to advance for the dredging and reopening of Warri, Koko, Burutu, Port Harcourt and other seaports in South-South which had been neglected and suffered several setbacks in the past.
“If the seaports are re-opened, it will provide jobs for the teeming unemployed youths and as such reduce the present high crime rate. It will equally open up the socio-economic life of the people,” the statement disclosed.
