Ex-Nigeria OPEC President Passes on at 90
LAGOS JULY 9TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Former Minister of Petroleum Resources and Ex- President of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno has passed on at the age of 90-years old
According to sources, the Nigerian educationalist and politician, who was born on 1926 in Monguno-Borno state, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016.
He was Presidential Candidate during the Option A4 Elections in the early 1990s in Nigeria.
According to Wikipedia, Monguno attended Monguno primary school, Teacher’s College Bauchi and Katsina, college of arts, science and technology Zaria, Moray House college of education and the University of Edinburgh.
Before his death, Munguno was M.P. in 1959, education secretary and councilor for education, works and social welfare Borno, local Government 1959-1965.
After this reign, Munguno became the Federal minister for Air Force and internal affair in 1965 and held the position till 1966 after which he was appointed the federal commissioner for trade and industries between 1967 and 1971.
He became the minister mines and power, petroleum and energy 1972 and his tenure ended three years after in 1975.
A leader of Nigerian delegation to UNCAD II New Delhi in 1968 and member Nigerian delegation to United Nations for over 10 years, Monguno received keys to the cities of New York, Louisville, Kentucky, USA; Quito, Ecuador; and Lima, Peru
