Onuesoke Condemns Bombing of Oil Pipeline, Urges N’Delta Avengers to Embrace Peace
LAGOS MAY 22ND (URHOBOTODAY)-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Chief Sunny Onesoke has lashed out at a militant group, Niger Delta Avengers for being responsible for the recent attack on pipelines in the region
Rather than destroying pipelines and sabotaging the economy of the country, Onuesoke advised the group to embrace peace by going into negotiation with the Federal Government on the possibility of passing the Petroleum Industrial Bill (PIB) and withdrawal of oil blocks from their owners in other to create a balance.
He viewed the recent act of vandalism by the militants as an economic sabotage which is capable of resulting in a shortfall in oil production and electricity generation in the country.
The Niger Delta Avengers had claimed responsibility for the recent bombings of a Shell Petroleum Development Company platform in Rivers State; Chevron’s Okan platform at Abiteye in Escravos, Delta State and the pipelines transporting crude oil to the Warri and the Kaduna refineries.
Onuesoke who described the re-emergence of militancy in the Niger Delta as a sad development and a threat to the unity and progress of the nation said, ““We condemn in its totality the recent attacked on Chevron’s oil facility and wish to advise the perpetrators of the dastardly act to embrace the amnesty programme.
He argued that it would be out place for the militants who are from the Niger Delta region to start destroying pipelines of which the consequences is the degradation of farmland, pollution of water and other effects which would affect their community.
