LAGOS 26TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Delta State Police Command has arrested an Udu Constituency 2015 House of Assembly contender and Late Prosper Erhinojaiye driver over their alleged complicity in the recent murder of the Udu Vigilante Chairman’s assassination.
A popular Chairman of one of the NURTW units in Udu Council Area and ten others are also on the run over their alleged role in the killing of the Vigilante head.
FrontiersNews gathered that their arrest followed an earlier petition dated 16th April, 2014 by the Late Prosper to AIG Zone 5 Benin-City alleging threats to his life by the fleeing NURTW Chairman, the arrested politician and their loyalists before his death the next day.
According to a Police source, the arrested politician, the fleeing NURTW Chairman and ten others had running issues with the deceased recently where they allegedly threatened the life of (Prosper) and an alarm was raised.
The source added that it was after threats on the life of the deceased that he was shot dead the next day by suspected assassins.
Our correspondent obtained a copy of a petition written by the solicitors to late Prosper Erhinojaiye, G.A. ETINAGBEDIA &CO. dated 16th April 2014 addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 5 Benin, received and copied the Ughelli Area Command and Ovwian Police Division respectively, alleging threat to life of Prosper.
The petitioners had called on the Police to act fast, as the life of their client (Prosper) was in danger any moment considering the height of threat by fleeing union chairman, arrested politicians and others.
The petition titled; ‘threat to life of Prosper Erhinyonjare’ stated as follows; “Our client is the Chairman of the Udu Central Vigilante team whose authority to act is derived from the Udu Local Government Council Area and its environs.
“That the person of Mr. Elvis Kporo of No.2 Ayoro Estate Berger Quarter Alaska Town and Hon Matthew Uparan alias Ojeku and others in their gang are bent on eliminating our client; reasons being that he stands against their nefarious activities in the local government council.”
“Our client also informed us that some time early this year February Mr. Elvis Kporo and Hon Matthew Uparan aka Ojeku were arrested by some policemen from the area command concerning a petition brought against Elvis and Ojeku to be a cultist responsible for the kidnapping and unrest in Udu by some aggrieved persons in Udu to which our client was not even a party to that petition. Elvis and Ojeku were later invited for interrogation concerning the petition.”
The statement further read; “Our client further informed us that ever since the interrogation by the police, there has been series of threat to his life and members of the vigilante team in several ways and forms.
“The gang named above want to nail our client by all means and all cost and as at today the plan is still on to kill our client, hence this petition. The antecedent of this gang is well known fact in the local government council.”
The statement continued; “our client further informed us that a member of the vigilante team Mr. Friday Agadagba was shot dead by the gang at Orhuwhorun junction on the 12th of April 2014 at about 6.00pm and now they are after our client’s life.
“Our client informed us that Mr. Elvis Kporo and Hon Matthew Uparan had promised to kill our client and all members of the vigilante team one after the other before the murder of Mr. Friday Agadagba.
“Our client also informed us that the gang attacked him opposite his office on the 15th of April 2014 but however rescued by a passer-by.
The matter has been reported to the DPO Ovwian/Aladja Division who has tried his best but the life of our client is still in danger.”
“We fear that our client may be killed as the case may be, hence these petition to put the relevant authorities, security agencies on the notice and more importantly to arrest Mr Elvis Kporo and Hon Matthew Uparan”.
A reliable source told FrontiersNews that the slain Warri vigilante chairman popularly known as Puffman had earlier vowed to fish out the killers of Prosper and to wipe out all cultists in the environs before he was shot dead days later.
