LAGOS DECEMBER 17TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Chairman, Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief (Barr) Peter Nwaoboshi has affirmed that the people of Urhobo nation in Delta state has never at any time belonged to opposition in Nigerian democratical history.
Nwaoboshi who made the confirmation while addressing large crowd of PDP faithful at Orogun, Delta State, during PDP Ughelli North Chapter victory rally in celebration of the party land slide victory in the local government in the just concluded Delta Central bye-election, argued that it is not true to say that the Urhoboman has been in opposition.
He pointed out that If for any reason the Urhobos lost one seat and before the end of the tenure they regained the seat, it means Urhobo nation has demonstrated that they belonged to the ruling group.
According to him, “For those of you who were aware in 1998 when we did the first election, we won the three Senatorial districts. So to say that the Urhoboman has been in opposition is not true. The Urhoboman has never been in opposition. If for any reason they lost one seat and before the end of the tenure they regained that seat, I think the Urhobo nation has demonstrated that they belonged to the ruling group.
“And like I told them in the television, traced it back to the NCNC, under the NPN up till today, the Urhoboman has always been in the winning party. History will justify you. You are only keeping to the history of your fore fathers by remaining in the ruling party. History must always be our guide. So I congratulate all of you for this victory and I have come here to celebrate with you and to rejoice with you.
“In rejoicing with you, I want to plead with you that we have laboured so hard to bring unity in PDP in Delta State. We have laboured so hard to bring peace in PDP in Delta State. We have had sleepless night to bring peace in PDP in Delta State. Please my brothers, let no man’s ambition, let no man’s personal interest and let no ethnic interest divide PDP in Delta State. We should be one family. And PDP will not fold his hands after this sacrifice. We are one family, we remain one family and we will always work as a family and that is what we are working for. “
Speaking in the same vein,Former Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG) and Chairman of Urhobo Political Congress (UPC), Chief Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege has attributed the success of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent Delta Central bye-election to the great achievements of Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration in the past six and half years which are visible for everyone to see in Delta State.
Omo-Agege who is the Chief Host of the Victory Rally maintained that they would not have been celebrating today without the resolute support of Emmanuel Uduaghan whose strong leadership made the victory possible.
He said the people of Delta State are better off today than when he took office in 2007. “I am so proud of our Governor’s record and grateful for all he has done to make us safe and stronger, the infrastructure he has built to drive our economy and more importantly for his vision of Delta Beyond Oil which has laid a solid foundation for future economy that can sustain itself when oil become less significant in our national life,” Omo-Agege said.
Omo-Agege who recently emerged as the Chairman of Urhobo Political Congress (UPC) pointed out that PDP won the Delta Central Senatorial bye-election because the party has superior organization that is evident in the structures it has built over the years in every ward of the state, adding that because of the unity in the party during the election the party was able to overcome every obstacle. that came its way.
According to him, “Our unity in the election made the difference between success and failure. The opposition expected us to fight ourselves and when we did not, they failed strategically and we succeeded in winning back our seats.”
Expressing his gratitude to Delta State Deputy Governor, Professor Emos Utuama for standing by them and leading them so well, Omo-Agege who was a Senatorial Aspirant in the bye-election also extended his greetings to PDP South-South Vice Chairman, Dr Steve Oru, PDP Delta Central Chairman Chief Tom Amioku, PDP Chairman Delta Central Campaign Council Prof Sam Oyovbaire, Hon Evelyn Oboro of the Federal House of Representative, and other members of the campaign council who worked so hard for the party victory.
PDP Chairman, Ughelli North, Chief Shedrack Imonieroh thanked Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for the success of the party’s victory , just as he sent a warning signal to the opposition party saying that PDP is the party to beat in Delta State.
He, equally commended the leadership role played by Chief Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege who had to reach out to people of the opposite party regardless of the cost implication with the singular aim of assuring that never again would the people of Ughelli North be in opposition.
“Furthermore, the fatherly role played by Dr Steve Oru is worthy of emulation. The roles played by the Ughelli North Executive committee are indeed worthy of emulation. I am assuring you that there is no opposition in Ughelli North as far as PDP is concern,” Imonieroh who is the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Victory Party he assured.
