LAGOS SEPTEMBER 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Chairman of the forum of registered political parties in the South -South region of Nigeria and Chairman of Delta State Social Democratic Party (SDP), Hon Oke Idawene has accused Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of maladministration and alleged involvement in crafty and fraudulent activities that are inimical to development of Delta State.

Idawene who made the accusation while speaking to Urhobotoday correspondent in Lagos state where he attended a meeting of top SDP officials recently, lamented that he regretted and apologized to the people of Delta State for being among those who brought him to power, adding that after spending a year and four months in office, Okowa has no major project to show for it.
Describing Okowa’s government as embodiment of fraud, Idawene alleged, “The man has an ulterior motive. When he came to office, the first thing he did was to increase the contract limit which the past Governors of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Chief James Ibori maintained in their separate tenure. When Ibori and Uduaghan were in power, any project above N50m, they will summon state executive meeting to debate on it before approval. But when Okowa came into office, he increased it from N50m to N250m.
“The question now is how many projects are above N250m in Delta State has he executed in the state since he came into office? In this case, what he does is that he approves the contracts in his bedroom and awards it to whoever he wishes. You can take a look at the construction of Interbau Roundabout. I understand that the project was given to an Agbor man for N250m, an unknown contractor in the state. That is an aberration.”
Idawene who urged Deltans to stand for their right and vote out Okowa in 2019, accused the Governor of renovating the newly constructed Delta State government house with N1.2bn, a project he claimed Uduaghan completed three months before he left office, wondering of what importance to renovate a government house his predecessor only used for three months.
Comparing the fast pace of development in Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Anambra and Rivers states by their various governors with the slow pace of development in Delta state, Idawene is of the view that Delta State people have no governor but someone who has come to usurp the common wealth of the people for his personal benefit and that of his cronies, while the people of Delta State suffer in abject poverty.
“If not, how will you assess the situation whereby civil servants cooperative contribution is being held by the state governor? It is not done anywhere. Okowa is running Delta state not as an elected governor, but as an autocrat. The IGR of the state is shrouded in secrecy. Nobody knows how much is generated in the state.
“We are not practising democracy in Delta State. DESOPADEC account, as we speak, is being used for political appointees. How can he pays political appointees with DESOPADEC allocations? The federal government allocation from Abuja is not enough for this man. He collected bailout fund, he did not use it for the payment of salaries. Salaries are still being owed workers in the state. The joint account with local governments is being controlled by only Okowa. Meet SAs, meet commissioners in town, the ordinary man in Delta is far better than them.
“The list of his failures is on and on and on. The security in the state has dropped drastically compared to the previous administrations. Delta State is far bigger than one man. It belongs to all of us. I want to state categorically that Okowa needs to get it right. We want to know how much the state has generated since he came to power. ” Idawene demanded.
The Delta State SDP Chieftain argued that one year and half, Okowa has not done anything tangible for the state, adding that in the midst of the economic recession, he went to United Kingdom to celebrate his birthday with 30 people when Delta State workers and their families are dying hunger because of non-payment of salaries.
“Do you know what Naira means to the dollar right now? Just to celebrate 57 years old, not 60 years. His SMART agenda is a scam. His aides are redundant and moribund. Many of them have no job doing in the office because Okowa lacks initiative. He is clueless and lazy. He is the first governor to have come on board that in a year he has nothing to show for it. Is it the three kilometer road he is doing? Or one kilometer road he is tarring and commissioning? What has he done? Manpower development zero, infrastructural development zero, security zero, everything is zero.
“The few kilometer roads he claimed to have constructed were nothing compared to the billions of naira he has received. This man has collected over N200billion but we cannot see what he has done with the money. Where has the money entered?” Idawene queried.
