Okada Ban: Delta Govt Deploys Buses, Tricycles to Urhobo Community, Kokori
Barely 24 hours after the pronouncement by the Delta State Government banning the operation of Motorcycle popularly called Okada in Kokori town with a seven days grace to be extended to other towns and villages in the local government area, the state government yesterday says it has deployed large number of buses and tricycles to the areas to cushion the effect.
The state Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Benson Igbakpa who disclosed this during a chat with Saturday POINTER, said that as at Thursday, over 30 tricycles as well as the state government assisted commuter buses were deployed to the area. While saying that there is no cause for alarm in cushioning the effect on the ban, Hon. Igbakpa assured residents in the area that the state government is alive to the challenge just as he stressed that it has enough tricycles in its kitty that would be delivered to interested operators. “Since yesterday (Thursday), we have deployed over 30 tricycles to the affected areas. And as i speak with you now, we have stopped deploying tricycles to other parts of the state, so, we have enough tricycles that would take care of the area conveniently”. He enjoined residents in the area, particularly the students to be patient with the state government, adding that the directive was not meant to punish them, but to address some of the security challenge in the area which he opin is in the best interest of Deltans.
