Jubilation as PHCN Restores Light in Bayelsa, after 2 Weeks of Darkness
There was jubilation at the weekend by residents in several neighbourhoods of Yenagoa following the restoration of electricity supply to Bayelsa State by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) after two weeks of darkness. Bayelsa had been in darkness since May 17 when one of the power towers of PHCN, which supplies electricity to the state, was damaged by a huge tree, which was pulled down by a storm in the forest of Obunagha community, Yenagoa local government area.
There were indications that the state government and the Yenagoa office of the PHCN deployed combined efforts to restore electricity in the state.
PHCN’s Business Manager, Yenagoa District, Godwin Orovwhiroro, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Olice Kemenanabo, had assured that a by-pass cable would be constructed at the damaged area of the transmission line as a temporary measure to provide electricity.
