Ibori: 7,000 Deltans Protest against London Court

Chief James Onanefe Ibori

LAGOS MAY 3RD (URHOBOTODAY) – A mass protest was held, Friday morning, in Warri, Delta State, as over 7,000 youths, women and men moved round the town, calling for the immediate release of former governor of the state James Onanefe Ibori who is currently being tried by a London Court with the judgement expected to be delivered soon.
Maintaining that Ibori should be released since, according to them, the London Court lacks evidence against him, the protesters, numbering over 7,000, carried placards with various inscription like ‘Judge Pitts release Ibori for us since they lack evidence’, ‘we want our son back’, ‘You cannot keep our Ibori there when you lack evidence’, ‘Our son is innocent’, among others.
The protesters also stated that the decision of the London Court goes against the grain of legal procedures and it’s ominous because it reinforces the belief in some quarters that Ibori had been allegedly targeted for jail by hook or crook by the British authorities for reasons yet unknown.
In a chat with one of the protesters, Joseph Eromosere, a media analyst, he said: “the decision goes against the grain of legal procedures and ominous because it reinforces the belief in some quarters that Ibori had been targeted for jail by hook or crook by the British authorities for reason yet unknown particularly because the procedure being adopted by the British Court smacks of working from answer to question.
