On behalf of my family and the good people of Delta North Senatorial District, I salute the dynamism, selflessness and patriotic commitment to service of our departed colleague, brother and friend, Senator Pius Akpor Ewherido.
Senator Ewherido was an outstanding legislator, peaceful, calm and very courageous. We are inspired to celebrate his remarkable life and accomplishment.
His Bill on “Corporate Manslaughter” is before the Senate. Pius will be remembered and counted among those that excelled in the 7th Assembly. He was a leader of proven integrity, tenacity and character. His passion about a democratic and united Delta State and indeed Nigeria was a common thread that ran through his sterling career in public service and politics, which remained so till his last day on earth. Senator Ewherido made a mark in his stay at the Delta State House of Assembly.
As Deputy Speaker and Acting Speaker from 1999 – 2007, his vibrant and robust leadership will forever remain a reference point.
Due to his contributions in politics and community service, he was honoured with the following chieftaincy titles: Otemunorueme of Ewhu kingdom, the Adjerese of Effurun-Otor Kingdom, Aruore of Enwhe and most recently, the EjeUrhoboYovwi of Olomu Kingdom.
Senator Ewherido was resolute and refused to bow even where it would have been rosier to abandon his principles. He remained on the side of the people, lived and died in pursuit of the interest of his people.
He left an indelible footprint that we should follow. Pius, we will surely miss you! You will continue to live in our hearts and remain the height of moral ethical and all other standards that people must strive to attain.
The entire nation will always remember with appreciation Senator Ewherido’s immense contributions and notable inputs to national development and the growth of true federalism and democracy.
I therefore, urge the family, people of Delta Central Senatorial District, all Deltans and Nigerians in general to take solace in the fact that Pius lived a most fulfilled life.
May his soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. Adieu Gogorogo!
