DESOPADEC Commissioner, Ominimini Empowers Professionals with Working Tools

LAGOS JUNE 9TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Commissioner representing Ughelli North and Ethiope-East Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State in the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Rt (Hon) Chief Christopher Ominimini Obiuwevbi has empowered no fewer than thirty three professionals who specialized in different trade with starter packs made of working equipments of which to start their trade.

Those who benefited from the gesture of the Agency are those who specialize in Fashion and Design, Welding and fabrication, hair dressing, cosmetology and carpentry. They went home with working tools and equipments worth millions of Naira. Ominimini promised to continue with the gesture on Tuesday by issuing starter packs to ICT professionals and others.
Addressing the elated beneficiaries, Ominimini reminded them that what the Agency is doing cut across all sectors, adding that the beneficiary have been trained in their different skills before giving the working tools to them.
According to him, “We believed that having acquired the skills there is need for we to give them starter pack. In order words, we are empowering this people in order to make income for themselves. In this case, we are giving them employment and in another form they will grow to become employer of labour. In other words, there will be great economic development in Delta State as enshrined in the three points agenda of the Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.”
He said some of the beneficiary have already been trained adding that the training they gave to them was retraining.
Hear him, “Some of them were trained by us and we gave them equipments to set-up their workshops. Some of them already have their workshops. These equipments will serve as a back-up for them.
“First of all, government is a continuity. We will continue to solve the problem of the people of the oil producing areas. If you watch very well, the activities of Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and what DESPODEC is doing is targeted towards the down trodden in the rural community.
“What we operate in DESOPADEC is bottom top project. We do not sit in our offices and begin to think for the people. Instead, we go to the HOSTCOM host community of oil and gas to ask them of their priority. So it is what they need that we embark upon.”
As for monitoring the progress of the beneficiaries, Ominimini said, “We know them. We know their leader and their community. We have their addresses and their telephone numbers. We do monitor them. We do not just give materials to this people we must do a follow up. This is why we do not give cash. if we had giving out cash, they would have use the money for some other things. This is why we give out materials that are related to their areas of specialization.”
