Delta State: Warri Sets to Host National Wrestling Championship
LAGOS JUNE 27TH (URHOBOTODAY) The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochie, has said the state is now ready to host the median edition of Chief E.K. Clark National Wrestling Championship.
The speaker, who is also the chair of the local organizing committee for the championship, confirmed the readiness of the state after an inspection tour of the venue of the event in Warri.
Mr. Ochie said the state government, through the Delta State Sports Commission, working in conjunction with the wrestling federation of Nigeria, will ensure that the championship meets its main objective of discovering young talents that will represent the country in the future. He called on everyone, especially Delta residents, to support and work with the local organizing member in ensuring the success of the championship.
Speaking on the venue of the event, Mr. Ochie commended the management of brown hill event center, Ogunnu, Warri, and expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided to host the championship.
The median edition of the wrestling championship holds in Warri from July 24 to 27.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Delta State Sports commission, Melvin Amaju, said the championship will serve as qualifier for the National commonwealth games.
“You know that Delta State is the hobs for sporting events right now with clear leadership on the field and we are also having leadership off the field. Leadership off the field will translate to organizing events of this magnitude, and his Excellency watched the wrestling event in Lagos State, and we approached him and he decided to host the events,” he said.
“And this event is a qualifier for the next national common wealth games. We named the competition after our illustrious legend, Chief E.K. Clark and he is very excited about it.”
