As part of efforts to provide its residents with pipe borne water, Delta State government has set aside N9 billion for the rehabilitation and expansion of its regional water scheme in Effurun.
The state’s commissioner for water resources development, Chris Oghenechovwen, who spoke when the National Good Governance Tour team went on an inspection of the project, said the scheme is meant to provide water on a regional basis to four local government areas across the state.

The project, which has a 45 meters high water reservoir tower that can hold 633,000 gallons of water, also has 17 bore holes which can produce about 170 cubic meters of water per hour.
So far, he said, N 2.5 billion out of the total sum earmarked for the project is yet to be spent.
Oghenechovwen said rehabilitation is also being done on some pipes to reticulate water to the beneficiary communities.
Representative of the firm handling the project, AG Gold Trust Nigeria Ltd, assured that the project will be completed by December 2013.
While emphasizing the importance of water as a driving force of industrial economy and domestic activities, Information Minister, Labaran Maku, urged the contractor to speed up completion of the project.
