Delta State FRSC Advises Road Users to Adhere Strictly to Safety Rules
Commercial and other road users in the state have been advised to adhere strictly to the road safety rules at all times so as to avoid accident, especially during the raining season.
The Deputy Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Eloka Anyaoku, gave the advice at Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area during a special patrol operation tagged ‘’ Operation Shield’’ along Benin-Asaba express road.
Mr. Anyaoku said that the special operation was to commemorate the United Nations Road Safety Week declared to sensitize governments at all levels and citizens of member nation on activities that would reduce road crashes and facilities by 50% by the year, 2020.
The FRSC Deputy Commandant stated that the initiative was geared towards shielding road users of the inherent hazards as well as curtails them from indulging in reckless during over-loading of passengers, causing obstruction and over-speeding on the highway.
He maintained that the focus of the operation was to enforce road traffic law-booking offender and operate mobile courts as well as sensitize the road users on the need for them to have positive attitudinal change.
Mr. Anyaoku said that the increase presence of FRSC officials on the road had tremendously calmed traffic resulting in the reduction of over-speeding among drivers, adding that the Issele-Uku Unit Command had recorded five crashes out of which two was fatal with two deaths against the previous week with eleven crashes, six fatality and eleven deaths.
Earlier, the Assistant Route Commandant of Issele-Uku Unit Command, Winifred Uche Chukwurah and the Assistant Corps Marshal and the Zonal Commanding Officer in-charge of Delta, Edo and Anambra states, Mr. Wole Olaniran appealed to government and good spirited individuals to support the FRSC with necessary equipment, heavy-duty towing trucks, ambulances and other vehicles for them to ensure effective service delivery in their operation.
