The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba has chided the attitude of the Ughelli North LG caretaker committee chairman, Hon Chief Friday Akpoyibo towards the security of the area.
Mr. Aduba condemned the bad manners of the council chairman on Tuesday, April 9 when he visited the Ughelli Police AREA Command to commission the perimeter fence of the police formation.
The occasion was witnessed by various stake holders in the security sector including members of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC), management of corporate organizations including the hospitality business, religious bodies, the academia, local vigilante as well as artisans groups.

But the chairman of the caretaker committee for the Ughelli North LGC who is the Chief Security Officer of the local government was conspicuously absent from the event.
Responding to a welcome address by the Area Commander, Ughelli Area Police Command, Mr. Awosola Awotinde, the Commissioner of Police reiterated his message that policing is for every body and that the success of the police job is measured by an assessment of the officer’s performance by the public.
He thanked all who contributed to the perimeter fence project assuring that the Ughelli community will get a letter of commendation from the Delta State Police Command for the gesture.
Mr. Aduba said the Delta State Police Command has over 150 divisions and as a flash point and a peculiar State, “there is no type of crime that is not committed in the State” hence there is need for an increased number of man power for the Delta State Police Command.
He called on members of the public for a change of attitude towards the development of the economy, advocating a drive towards agriculture, which according to him, can improve the economy, engage the youths and steer them from crime and criminality.
The CP commended the local vigilante outfit for their performance so far saying those among them who were bad have been rounded up just as criminal elements I the Police Force have been dismissed.
He called for an enlargement of the membership of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) so as to boost their role of criticizing and assisting the performance of the police in the State. Mr. Aduba appealed to all stake holders to be involved in policing the State especially as policing demands much investment.
“The information members of the public give goes a long way to assisting the police in doing their job that is why we must all join hands to fight these criminals to a stand still”.
The Commissioner of Police lamented the absence of the Ughelli North LGC caretaker committee chairman, Hon Chief Friday Akpoyibo ,and others within the Area Command, from the event, warning that if such bad manners are further exhibited in future, he will not hesitate to report them to the governor.
He noted that the governor has directed the local government council chairmen to cooperate with the police and the local vigilante in the fight against criminal exclaimed “I see no reason why they are behaving like this, look at the one of Ughelli he is not here for this commissioning and he is the Chief Security Officer of the LGA, if he continues like this I will report him to the governor”.
Earlier in the welcome address, the Area Commander, Mr Awosola Awotinde informed the CP that crime wave in the area has drastically reduced due to his office’s complimentary efforts to the divisions in the area.
He said on resumption of duty as Area Commander on October 11, 2012 he was amazed by the porous nature of the office of the Area Commander and the Divisional Headquarters. So, on January 16, 2013 he inaugurated a building committee headed by himself with SP Chukwu Nwukwa his Admin Officer as vice chairman. Other members of the committee included Helen Ejoima (Treasurer), Sgt Kadiri Momodu and W/cpl Bose Iretgbe as Correspondent.
“Letters of appeal were sent out to the good people of Delta State to assist us with materials for the project. The response was overwhelming. I wish to inform the CP that no policeman was levied for this project. I only acted as a catalyst by harnessing the hospitality of the good people of Delta State to complete this project” the AC said.
Accosting the Ughelli North council chairman shortly after the event, Hon Friday Akpoyibo in response to the CP’s indictment confirmed that he did not contribute a dime towards the project. He could not give any reasonable excuse why he absented himself from the event but assured that the relationship between him and the police is cordial.
Among dignitaries who graced the occasion were: Hon A.L.Okogba (Chairman PCRC), Elder Osawere (MD T-Rex& Company), Chief Mrs. Odet Oviri (aka BRAVO), Chief Henry Olori (MD Jabin Olori Motels ) John Tagar (Lord Mayor of Urhobo land) and Mr. Wilson Osoh (Patron to PCRC).
