Delta: LG Officials in a Public Brawl over Money
LAGOS AUGUST 7TH (URHOBOTODAY)-There was a free-for-all in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State on Tuesday after Chairman of the Transition Committee refused to brief members of the committee on the management of funds accruing to the council.
“Things have fallen apart and the centre can no longer hold,” a source said. “As I speak to you, we are still at the police station over the matter.”
Chairman of the committee and some members of the committee had been enduring a strained relationship, with the members alleging that the chairman has been running the council without their contributions.
On Monday evening when the aggrieved committee members insisted that the chairman must hold a budget meeting, the chairman allegedly blatantly rejected the request, setting the tone for the eventual commotion.
The chairman and some of the accounts officers then went to a hotel on the outskirts of the town, but the embittered committee members trailed them to hotel and provoked the exchange of blows at the hotel premises.
