Delta LG: Embrace Peace, Shun Politics of Bitterness, Faith Majemite Advises Contestants
LAGOS AUGUST 2ND (URHOBOTODAY)-As the August 9 Party primaries for the October 25 Delta State Local Government Elections draws near, one of the key contestants under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Chief (Mrs) Faith Majemite has appealed to other candidates in the State to shun politics of bitterness and adhere strictly to democratic electioneering principles so as to achieve a hitch-free party primaries and subsequently a smooth LGA elections in October, this year.
The chairmanship aspirant in a statement signed by the Head of Political Communications of Faith Majemite Solidarity Movement (FMSM), Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe said that there is the absolute need to have a paradigm shift from politics of bitterness, acrimony and violence to that of a more friendly, robust and civilized process where all political actors play the game according to the rules. She observed that since the advent of constitutional democracy in Nigeria, most electioneering processes do not conform with the laid down rules and regulations which is why petitions have consistently flooded election tribunals across the country, pointing out that, the time is ripe for political actors to exhibit reasonable maturity and decent political communication in their campaigns and other engagements with the electorate.
Mrs. Majemite who is also the holder of the traditional title of ONIEMOR of Agbon Kingdom in Ethiope East and Special Adviser to Governor Uduaghan on Political Mass Mobilization, commended the state Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for the substantial efforts and quality results achieved so far in restoring peace and security to Delta State. She further posited that it is the civic responsibility of all citizens, including political actors and party faithful to promote peace and assist government in the sustenance of democratic governance through responsible and matured political engagements while pursuing their individual and group political ambitions.
She disclosed that her political ambition at the moment is to get elected as the first female Chairperson of Ethiope East LGA under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, so as to introduce a new dimension of transparency, accountability and open door policy in local government administration with strategic focus on youth and women empowerment, establishment of skills acquisition and vocational training schemes, qualitative primary health care, renovation and equipment of schools under the LGA management and to attract socio-economic development through partnership with the state government and private investors.
Mrs. Majemite urged other contestants to focus their agenda on the people and essentially avoid crude politics and violence so that the electorate will have confidence in our electioneering processes so as to crown the huge efforts being made by the electoral bodies at federal and state levels with sucess. She suggested that voting during the primaries should be an open ballot system where delegates queue behind the candidate of their choice to present election ringing and violence.
