Delta: DESOPADEC Commissioner, Okolugbo Uncommon Achievements in Ndokwa (PICS)

LAGOS JULY 7TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The assumption of office of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Commissioner representing Ndokwa Nation, Sir Ken Okolugbo in November 28th, 2012 has not only brought great strides of development to the area, but it has also better the living standard of the people of Ndokwa Nation in the area of infrastructural development, health, provision of water, education, security, empowerment and energy among others.

His score cards has no comparism. Major achievements recorded in his eighteen months of stewardship as commissioner representing the Ndokwa ethnic nation cannot be over emphasis.
Urhobotoday findings revealed that following the inability of the citizens to care for themselves medically, a free medical care was organized by the commission in which people with medical challenges were catered for. Those with eye problems like glaucoma and cataract were treated. Those suffering from various ailments ranging from malaria, fever, typhod, ear infection, rheumatoid arthritis were treated in dozens, while many of those with higher health problems were referred to University Teaching Hospital, Oghara and their medical bills were taking care of by the Commission.
Okolugbo achievements in the health has no bound as he administration constructed and commissioned an antenatal pediatric ward at Ubiaruku General hospital, while construction of health centres in Ebedei –Adonishaka Ebedei Umuozegoli, Emu-Unor, Ogume and Abbi at the level of seventy percent completion.
Aware of the importance of power supply to community and industrial development, Okolugbo purchased nine numbers of 33 by 11 KVA transformers to boost electricity inefficiency in Ndokwa nation, supplied 20KVA generating plant to Ubiaruku High Court and installed two numbers 300KVA in Afieze Kwale. At Amai, Ubiaruku, Umutu,Akoku,Utagba-Unor and Abbi the Commission provided solar panel street lights. This has contributed to the enhancement social life and reduction of criminal activities in the communities.
As for road construction and rehabilitation, Okolugbo achievements are seen everywhere. He constructed 200 meters road at Umutu, 150 meters road at Johnson Uriaku Street, 350 meters road at Ebede Community and 350 meters road at Abbi Umuoye among others.
In the education sector, he has either constructed more classrooms blocks or refurbished the dilapidated ones. Evidence of such projects could be seen at Ugbeleme Primary School, Umutu, Ebede Grammar School, Adishaka, Owah –Abbi Obioma Primary School, Ndueze Ez Primary School Utagba-Unor and Umuebu where a block of six classrooms, administrative block and toilets is hundred percent completed.

The Commission has almost completed the construction of Uduaghan Resource Centre, Ubiaruku, which comprises of Research Library, restaurant and twelve rooms for accommodation. In addition to the aforementioned, is the completion and commissioned of ICT Centre at Ubiaruku Grammar School. The centre is fully equipped with forty three computers, main office reception, ICT classroom and ICT library.
After construction of the ICT centre, the commission embarked on the training of fifty people in the knowledge of basic computer studies, MS Words and coral draw. On graduation, each participants were giving a computer, printer, generator and money to start of a business centre. By doing this, Okolugbo has taught them how to fish and also provide means of livelihood to others who will be under their employment.
Speaking to Urhobotoday, an online medium, Okolugbo disclosed that the funds were raised from Community Development Funds and Human Capital Development Initiative, adding that with the absence of micro-cedit, it became imperative for them to look for other means to promote medium and small scale development.
He gave thank to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan who had giving him the plans, the encouragement and resources to achieve his objectives.
His achievements were also felt in the water sector as the Commission has executed water and commissioned solar powered water project at Inam- Abbi to distribute 1km of water radius round the community. It has forty liter capacity with fifty two tap heads.
Putting into consideration the serious security challenges facing Ndokwa Nation especially in the area of kidnapping in Ubiaruku and environs, the Commission assisted security agencies in fighting the scourge by purchasing three Hilux vehicles for the police in Ukwuani LGA and vigilante in Ndokwa West LGA. The Commission is also assisting the vigilante in fuelling their vehicles and paying stipends to their staff. Investigation revealed that the impact is already yielding result as crime rates in these areas have been reduced.
