Celebration in Delta as PDP Moves against Endorsement of Candidates

LAGOS OCTOBER 10TH (URHOBOTODAY)-There was celebration and jubilation in Delta State when the news of the cancellation of endorsement of candidates to various electoral offices filtered into the state yesterday putting to rest the rumour of endorsement of a particular governorship candidate in the state.
The jubilating Deltans who spoke to Urhobotoday crew thanked the PDP National Working Committee for the decision, stressing that they should not only make the pronouncement but prosecute erring governorment officials and aspirants.
It would be recalled that the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has canceled the endorsement of candidates by officials of the party for the 2015 general elections at its state chapters.
This, according to a statement by Prof. Wale Oladipo, the PDP National Secretary, is part of decisions reached at the NWC meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
Oladipo said that some elected officers of the party at the state level had continued to engage in processes aimed at endorsing candidates for the 2015 general elections.
This, he said, was in spite of warnings from the party’s national leadership that as unbiased umpires, party officials should not be involved in such practice.
He, however, added that the party’s NWC would not hesitate to protect party members “who in any way stand to be shortchanged, cheated or victimised by such endorsements”.
The party scribe said the PDP would conduct primaries to duly elect its flag bearers in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
Oladipo charged members and supporters to disregard all such endorsements, adding that the party would not hesitate to sanction erring officers or chapters involved in such practice.
This, he said, was the final warning, stressing that the sanctity of the party’s nomination processes must be protected at all times.
He assured party members that a level-playing ground would be provided for all aspirants intending to participate in the nomination processes.
