LAGOS JULY 10TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Group under the aegis of Youth Emancipation Movement of Africa (YEMA) has condemned the action of traders in Ughelli Central Market who ply their business on the major Ekiugbo-Isoko road, Ughelli, Delta State instead of selling their wares in shops allocated to them in the market.
The founder of YEMA , a movement aimed at working towards the enthronement of a better African society , Comr. Ibebe Rufus Akpobome called on all traders of Ughelli Central Market to desist from transacting business on the major road.
While speaking to Urhobotoday.com he said, “A visit to the market revealed that traders have turned the dual Ekiugbo-Isoko road which the market is located into selling ground where they shade and hawk all kinds of commodities. The acts by the traders usually halt vehicular and pedestrian movements thereby leading to long and unnecessary traffic gridlock. It equally breeds crime because it makes it very easy for hoodlums to pick pockets and equally execute their evil act due to high congestion of people.“
The movement described the situation as not only disastrous, but also pathetic and unacceptable in a modern society.
“It is our believe that trading on the road is very dangerous as it can lead to accident resulting in lost of lives and properties,” he observed.
Ibebe Rufus who stated that the action of the traders who prefer to come out sell along the road instead of staying in their allocated shops had is defaced the beauty of the market, adding that their action is unacceptable in a modern society.
“We therefore, wish to humbly call on all traders, for the sake of their own safety to desist from trading on the road. We equally call on the government most especially the local government to build more stores to accommodate the traders,” he appealed.
