LAGOS JULY 8TH (NEWSRANGERS)-As leadership crisis continue to cripple the activities of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), President-General of UPU (Worldwide), Chief Moses Taiga has raised the alarm that he met an empty treasury in the coffer of the union since he resumed office as the President General of the organization.
It would be recalled that the leadership of the Urhobo body has been involved in leadership crisis which culminated in the election of Chief Moses Taiga by Urhobo traditional rulers and prominent Urhobo leaders to run the affair of the organization.
Speaking during the inauguration of new executive members of Urhobo Social Club, Lagos in Maryland, Lagos recently Taiga reiterated that his leadership met nothing in UPU account, adding that yet there are many things to be done and project to be executed which include publication in the media that involved a lot of money.
He revealed the outgoing executive of Chief Joe Omene left a lot of debt behind which include eight months unpaid salaries of UPU secretariat workers.
“I use this medium to appeal to Urhobo Social Club and other illustrious Urhobo personalities to come to our aide in term of financial support towards the smooth running of UPU. We also solicit the moral, intellectual, technical and social expertise, support and resources of every Urhobo person, home and abroad in our quest to re-engineer and reposition the Urhobo Nation,” he appealed.
Taiga stated that UPU is working towards uniting the Urhobo people by reaching out to all irrespective of socio-political interest and affiliation.
He, however complained that erstwhile President of UPU, Chief Joe Omene remains a problem to the smooth running of the activities of the organization as he continues to engage in activities inimical to UPU, the progress, unity and growth of Urhobo nation.
Taiga assured Urhobo indegenes that under his leadership, ‘Urhobo uvuovo’ is not a mere slogan but, “ is and will be projected, preached and practice to the letter.”
He reiterated the need for Urhobos not only to speak with one strong bold and coherent voice, but the time has come for every Urhobo person to exhibit uncommon patriotism, selflessness and activism for the greater good of beloved Urhobo ethnic group.
Urging Urhobos to be united and speak with one voice Taiga stated, “You will all agree that in the present Nigeria, any ethnic nationality that fail to recognize and collectively work towards a definite course of growth and development for itself, especially with the agitation and quit notices here and there, is indeed toying with political, social and economical slavery and extinction.
Taiga advised that traditional rulers should be accorded due respect because kings are made from heaven and they remain the custodians of peoples’ culture and tradition.
“UPU under my leadership we hold our monarchs in high esteem and we will not relent in ensuring that they are accorded the honour and dignity they rightly deserve by every Urhobo person and pan-Urhobo organization,” Taiga vowed .
