UPU Election: No Vacancy In My Executive, Omene Tells Aspirants
LAGOS NOVEMBER 13TH (URHOBOTODAY)-With the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) election for the position of new executive holding in December 2016, President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, Chief Joe Omene has sent a warning signal to intending contestants that they should jettison the idea of contesting with any member of the executive hence there is no vacancy in any of the position.
Omene who made the statement on Thursday in a reception organized for him by members of UPU Lagos branch pointed out that whoever have money to lavish on UPU election should continue, stressing that the good thing about such action is that it will be on record that such a person contested election and fail.
Omene who said he and members of his executive are waiting for their swearing ceremony in December 2016 however advised those thinking of contesting election into the UPU Executive to think of contesting in other alternative platforms than that of UPU.
Hear him, “How can you defeat Omene? Am I Goodluck Jonathan who will conduct his own election and loose? I am a lion. Lion goes for hunting in any part of the forest at it wish. When the time comes, we will do it according to the constitution. I am not the one who drafted the constitution. It is lay down rules.
“It is not easy to bring out a lion from his den. No one can take the name of President-General from me unless God approves it. I am a man of honour and integrity. When the time comes for me to live office as stipulated by the constitution I will live office honourably. Nobody can threaten me to live office. “
The UPU President General urged members of Urhobo Progress Union, Lagos branch not to be afraid of the consequences of the coming election hence it has been concluded.
He wondered how could those who are not members of UPU pick someone who is not also a member of UPU to contest for the post of President-General of UPU?
“Are those raising up the hands of a UPU President General aspirant members of UPU? Do they have delegates? It is UPU that have the delegates. The branches are the delegates. This election is a delegate election. UPU owns the delegates and not clubs. If you want to rule Urhobo join UPU. Ever since, you are not in UPU. You now emerge from nowhere to say you want to become President General of UPU. Is it possible?
“You stay in Lagos and do not know what is happening back home. Do you want to say if Urhobo have urgent issue to resolve they should run to Lagos? My compound is very big back home and contain the whole Urhobos.
“You said you have money and you will use your money to develop Urhobo nation, why have you not done it ever since? Was Olorogun Michael Ibru President General of UPU before he developed Urhobo nation?
“During one of the launching during Chief Okumagba tenure you promised to pay N25 million for development of Urhobo, till today you have not redeem it. He promised people of his community resident in the United Kingdom ten thousand pounds , till today he has not been able to redeem it,” Omene reminded a UPU Presidential aspirant whom he refused to mention his names.
Describing members of Urhobo Social Club as noise makers and wealthy men who do not know what is happening to the common urhobo man on the street, stressed that UPU is the real Urhobo organization made up of poor men, mad men, pastors and others.
Omene issue certificate of recognition to the new Osu of Urhobo in Lagos, Chief Ahwin saying that with the backing of UPU, the new Urhobo leader in Lagos has come to stay.
The President while inaugurating the new Osu Ru Urhobo of Lagos announced the issuance of four voting delegates for the Urhobo traditional council in Lagos .
Formerly Lagos state UPU has eight voting delegates. Fourfrom Ikeja branch and another four from Apapa branch. The pronouncements of four delegates for Lagos traditional council make Lagos to have twelve voting delegates.
