Urhobo Progress Union Inaugurates New Executive Members in Bayelsa State

LAGOS OCTOBER 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Urhobos resident in Bayelsa State under the aegis of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has sworn in new executive members to run their affairs for the next three years.
The election of the new executive members was based on vote of confidence passed on them as a result of their brilliant performance in the past administration.
Consequently, they were automatically given the mandate to continue to pilot the affairs of the Union for the another three years without being subjected to competitive election.
In an enlarge general meeting that attracted mammoth crowd of Urhobo sons and daughters resident in Bayelsa State, the following persons took the oath office and allegiance which was administered by the Legal Adviser of UPU Bayelsa State Chapter, Bar. Ogheneochuko Justine Sampson at JB Hotel, Nikton Road Kpansia – Yenagoa amidst pomp and pageantry .
They were Deacon Kingsley Eduvie Akpaka – President , Ernest Oghara – Vice President, Aherhoke Amos Okioma – Secretary, Charles Oruru – Financial Secretary, Gabriel Phrorhire – Welfare Officer, Alfred Akpoterevwen – Public Relations Officer, James Rhobo – Treasurer and Ayo Officer – Women Leader and Emmanuel Komonda as Youth President ( Ighelle )
While the posts of Provost, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Financial Secretary are expected to be filled by clans whose quota are yet to be accommodated for evenly representation in the executive during the August 2016 meeting.
In his acceptance Speech the two term President of Bayelsa State Chapter of Urhobo Progress Union , Deacon Kingsley Eduvie Akpaka expressed his appreciation and commended the congress for finding the members of the executive worthy to serve the good and peace loving Urhobo resident of Bayelsa State for second term.
According to him, the lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude of members initially discouraged him and thought of quitting the position at the end of the first tenure but with the clarion call for continuity , he has no alternative than to hearken to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
He appealed to members to ensure that there is renewed vigor , commitment and punctuality to attendance of meetings and activities.
In line with directives from UPU Headquarters, the Executive had since its inauguration in 2013 registered sub – Branches in Amasoma, Ogbia , Sagbama, Brass and the process of inauguration of Sub – Branches in Kiama, Imiringi , Oporoma, Ekeremor , Odi and other mega towns are in the offing .
Under the period under review it has succeeded in settling disputes that erupted in Brass and it is currently mediating in internal crisis in Sagbama Sub – Branch.
In order to instill sanity and discipline into the Union some EXCO members that failed to perform their duties after they were severally reprimanded were consequently impeached based on majority opinion .
One of such positions was the Financial Secretary position that was substituted with Charles Oruru , a dynamic and more committed member who has been performing his responsibilities effectively and efficiently since he assumed office.
In his words of advise and admonition for the Executive, a chieftain of the UPU in Bayelsa State Chapter, Moses Gelor had charged the executive to chart new courses and embark on policies and programs that will lift UPU in Bayelsa State to greater height.
He posited that due to the proximity of Bayelsa State to Delta State any tangible projects embarked upon by UPU in Bayelsa State will be of mutual benefit to not only the present Urhobos residing in Yenagoa, but for generations yet unborn.
” Many smaller clubs and Associations have built houses which they use as their meeting venues and guest houses to generate revenue , it will not be out of place if UPU Bayelsa State Branch should have its own edifice in Yenagoa ” Gelor suggested.
