LAGOS: One Killed, Scores Injured as Hausa, Fulani Youths Clash at Agege Abattoir

HAUSA-FULANI CLASH
LAGOS SEPTEMBER 7TH (URHOBOTODAY)- One Hausa youth, on Wednesday morning, was slaughtered and left dead by Fulani youths, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries when the Hausa-Fulani community engaged each other in a free for all clash at the Central abattoir in Agege area of Lagos State.
The dead, a Hausa man was alleged to have been slaughtered in broad day light with matchetes by the Fulanis.
Fight broke out between the two groups in the early hours of Wednesday when one group laid claim to a space for the sales of rams.

The other group protested and when all entreaties failed, the two went for each other’s jugular.
Hell was let loose between the two communities, who originally came from the North but are mostly inhabited in Agege area of Lagos State.
An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said these sorts of clashes often occur among different groups who lay claim to one thing or another in the abbattoir market.
”They always fight with one another over one thing or another. We need Government intervention because we don’t feel safe around here especially when they start their fight”, the source said.
Another trader at the market called on the State Government to do something about the menace of the Hausa-Fulani boys, who she described as too lawless to live among law abiding individuals.
A detachment of mobile police and soldiers from the State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was drafted to quell the lawlessness, when the Abattoir police station could not contain the situation.
Meanwhile, the remains of the dead Hausa man had been taken away, while those wounded were treated on the spot by local medical personnel.
