LAGOS JULY 23RD (URHOBOTODAY)-Police in Delta State has detained former Councilor, 54 years old Mr. John Onose, allegedly defiling a seven years old girl in a bush close to his residence along Fovie Street, Sapele, Delta State.
The incident which occurred on Tuesday afternoon did not attract the attention of the victim’s mother until Wednesday following the consistent complains of the little girl of pains in her private part.
When confronted by the mother of the little girl, Mrs. Onome Ojakovo, the former Councilor who is married with six children allegedly threatened to deal with her for accusing him falsely and he subsequently arrested her in order to intimidate her.

Urhobotoday gathered that the child, a kindergarten two pupil who is currently in critical condition at Central Hospital Sapele was playing with two other children while her mother, a neighbour to the suspect was spreading cloths outside when she later noticed the disappearance of her little girl and started searching for her. After about 20 minutes, the child was reported to have sneaked out from the corner of the suspect’s house.
Narrating the incident to our correspondent who visited the victim at hospital, Mrs. Ojakovo said when her child came out, she did not suspect anything, though the child was complaining of pains in her ‘bombom’.
According to her; “When my daughter came out from the corner of Mr. Onose’s house, she complained of pains in her ‘bombom’, but I did not pay serious attention to it, because I thought she might have hit her buttock on the ground while playing. So I ask her to go and wash herself.
“But when she came back from the school the next day and was still complaining of the pains, I decided to check her pubic region properly. What I saw shocked me. She was bleeding from her private part with her womb shooting out.
“Out of shock, I raised alarm which attracted our neighbours. It was then it done on me that my child had been sexually violated. I started crying and I could not imagine who could have done this wicked act to my little child?
“I was advised to use put salt in a hot water with disinfectant. While I was forcing my daughter outside to sit on the hot water, Mr. Onose came out of his compound and was walking to and fro. And when my daughter saw him, she was shocked and pointed to him as the man who injured her.
“When I asked her how? She told me that the man called her to the backyard close to the bush, held her and covered her mouth, while he insert his fingers into her private part and that the man only let her go when he heard me calling her and not after threatening her not to tell anyone.”
Mrs. Ojakovo disclosed that because it was late, she waited until Thursday morning to confront the man, adding that rather than own up, the man and his wife threatened to deal with her for accusing him falsely and she was subsequently arrested her with the police.
On getting to the station, the police advised the suspect to go and treat the girl and that they should go home and settle the matter amicably, but instead of doing that, Mr. Onose allegedly dragged her to his mother-in-law’s place at Ojelu area in Sapele, where some of the his family members bullied and threatened to beat her up.
She added that the timely intervention of her sister-in-law, whom she called on phone was what saved her from being beaten, stressing that since they could not resolve the issue amicably, she went back to the police station and the suspect was reminded in police custody.
When contacted, the DPO, Police Division Headquarters Sapele, CSP Badaru Musa confirmed the incident, stating that the police is still investigating the incident and waiting for the medical report conducted by the doctors at the central hospital before they could issue any official statement.
According to him, “Yes we are currently investigating the case, but until the medical report on the test conducted on the girl and the suspect we cannot make official statement, but because of the nature of the case, the suspect is currently in detention.”
