Abuja Judge Insists on Hearing Buhari’s Certificate Case
LAGOS MAY 31ST (URHOBOTODAY)-A Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ademola Adeniyi, has endorsed a suit challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s eligibility to contest the 2015 presidential election over his educational qualification.
The suit, filed by an Abuja based lawyer, Nnamdi Nwokocha Ahaiiwe, in February 2015, is challenging Buhari’s eligibility to contest the presidential election on the ground that he does not have a school certificate, the basic educational qualification set out by the Constitution for a candidate seeking to run for the office of President.
Ahaiiwe also joined Buhari’s party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants in the suit.
In his ruling last Thursday, Justice Adeniyi, dismissed all applications by the defendant as lacking in merit, maintaining that the suit was worth hearing.
He then adjourned the case till June 16, 2016 for hearing of the originating summons to determine whether the President’s educational qualification meets the minimum standards required by the 1999 Constitution.
THEWILL gathered that the ruling has caused a lot of stir among chieftains of the ruling APC who felt the ruling was disgraceful and embarrassing.
Some blamed the President’s team of lawyers for treating the matter with levity while others posited that the said judge was influenced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
