LAGOS FEBRUARY 23RD (URHOBOTODAY)- Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central Senatorial Zone, Delta State in the Senate called for the revitalization of moribund Delta Steel Complex, Ovwian-Aladja, Delta State.
Co-sponsoring a motion moved by Senator Barau Jibrin for the Resuscitation of Collapsed and Ailing Industries as Well as the Establishment of New Ones to Rejuvenate the Economy, Omo-Agege sighted example of the neglect and abandonment of Delta Steel Complex.

According to him, “conscious of the overwhelming resolve of our people to bring back the glory of DSC, my demised brother in the 7th Senate, the Distinguished Senator Pius Ewherido, took some positive steps to correct the bad behaviour in DSC. Sadly, he passed on. Mr. President and Distinguished Colleagues, this time, we will get to the root of the issues in DSC and bring it back to life.”
He said similar experiences of DSC, Aladja and Ajaokuta Steel Company as mentioned by Senator Dino Melaye abound everywhere in this country, adding that in this era of CHANGE, this is the time to take stock, take responsibility and take real action.
“May I submit finally on this important motion that the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) was established in 1979 by the Libyan government. Delta Steel Company (DSC), Aladja was established in the same 1979 in my District. While LISCO still produces and exports steel from war-ravaged Libya, clowns who purport to own DSC are joking with our people in the name of dishonest and illegal privatisation that hurts our people.
“This Motion just moved by the Distinguished Senator Barau Jibrin is a patriotic clarion call for a new national leadership commitment to the common good of our people.
“ Abused, neglected and without policy consistency over the years, our economy, is literarily now on life support. As leaders we cannot kick the can down the road any more. We must act.
“ The Executive and Legislature must cooperate, as articulated in the Motion, to rescue our economy in a sustainable manner. We must act now to get every economic millage from our industries by re-calibrating our industrial base.
“ I share the informed position for a comprehensive investigation of the failure of our industrialisation policies. Our viability as a Nation is hinged on a local economy that is producing optimally, he argued.
