Suspended Uvwie Council, Hhon Henry Baro

LAGOS AUGUST 18TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Report reaching Urhobotoday, an online medium seems to suggest that the embattle suspended Chairman of Uvwie local government area of Delta, Henry Baro is losing the battle to retain his position of the Chairman of the council as councilors who were loyal to him have reportedly moved to the Hon. Evelyn Oboro a member of House of Representative.
The revolted councilors who are Hon. Gabriel Ariayire and Hon. Jacob Utuedor joined five other five councilors loyal to Oboro, just as they distant themselves from the purported vote of confidence passed on the embattled Uvwie LGA Chairman.

Speaking to news men from their hideout as a result of what they term “threat to our lives”, they unanimously declared that to set the record straight, they are not part of any vote of confidence passed on Baro, stressing that it is wrong to pass a vote of confidence on Baro since he has been suspended by the Delta State House of Assembly.
“We are not part of any vote of confidence passed on Baro. The purported passed vote of confidence should be consider illegal, null and void. There is no point passing vote of confidence on someone who is suspended for alleged financial misappropriation and insecurity in our local government area. Such a man does not deserve the confidence of the councilors,” the Councilors argued.
While exonerating Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya led Delta State House of Assembly for any complicity, they commended the Delta State House of Assembly for suspending the council chairman whom they accused of instigating thugs to overthrow a legally constituted executives of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Uvwie Chapter which resulted into crisis where two police men were shot as confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer – Celestina Kalu.
Hon. Glory Utuedor who first spoke with newsmen exonerated Governor Okowa of any complicity in the crisis. He said that the state Assembly action was anchored on a lot of petitions against the council Chairman most especially those doing business in Uvwie including market women. He wondered why the other thirteen councilors led by Raymond Ebimowei would move a resolution freezing the councils account. On his part, Hon. Efe Ani defended the state house of Assembly action and wondered why people are making noise over the suspension issue. According to him, section 31 and subsection 5 of Delta State Local Government Law empowered the state Assembly to investigate the council Chairman and during the course of investigation, such a person is bound to step down in order not to obstruct the investigation.
He also punctuated the argument that Baro is being witch hunted because he did not work for Senator Okowa.
“If you pass through Effurun Roundabout, you will see Baro with Okowa’s Poster together thanking Uvwie People for voting for prosperity, so I don’t see why he should be saying he’s being witch hunted because he did not work for Okowa”.
He also alleged that in Uvwie, youths loyal to Baro can ‘Arrest’ and beat up people for no just cause and anybody caught by these youths is made to pay between 100,000 to 200,000 naira before he or she can be ‘bailed’.
He also said council’s account which suppose to be audited every three months, but this is their 8th month and nothing of such has been done. He said for fear of his live, the Auditor General of the Council – Mr. Omonigho Robinson had to work his transfer out of Uvwie when he made an attempt to Audit the Council’s Account. He also alleged that Hon. Baro used one of his thugs by name Felix Ejumudo to collect revenue from market women and there are evidence that all those monies are not being paid into the council’s account. He specifically said the crisis that engulfed the area recently was instigated and executed by the council Chairman and one Mr. Napoleon Adibu. He called on security agents to mop the area of weapons. He declared as thus “our lives are in danger, whenever and wherever they get us, they will beat us to a pulp or even kill us, right now, our lives are in Danger”
To demonstrate what they are facing, he said some youths led by Ufuoma Ebrakeme allegedly ordered the beating of two of their friends. “After flogging them like common criminals, they had to bail themselves with about N100,000 to N200,000. This is the kind of situation we find ourselves right now in Uvwie.” He called on security agents to beam their searchlight on Ugborikoko, Ugboroke, Udumurhe, Jakpa and Ekpan Communities in Uvwie LGA.
Hon. Wilson Ejiro Egwhrudje on his part said to the best of his knowledge, since the House of Assembly suspended Hon. Baro on August 4th and the vote of confidence passed August 5th,while the Vice Chairman was ordered to take over the affairs of the council with immediate effect by the state house of Assembly “The confidence vote was passed on the acting Chairman – Mrs. Stella Otiotio Dabona” adding that he sees no reason while Baro should be afraid if he is on the right track. He said presently they are being trailed by armed youths in Army uniform driving a harsh colour Toyota camry car.
Hon. Victor Okoloba who was injured and taken to a private hospital during the crisis that engulfed the house said that before now it was fearful for anybody to speak out his mind with intimidation and that they are telling them to go to Okowa and Oboro for their Salary, they thought it was a joke, now it is reality.
The Seven Councilors Hon. Glory Utuedor, Hon. Efe Ani, Hon. Timi Ukuade, Hon. Victor Okoloba, Hon. Wilson Ejiro Egwhrudje, Hon. Gabriel Ariayire and Hon. Jacob Utuedor therefore call on the Inspector General of Police, Director General, Department of state Security (DSS), Delta State Commissioner of Police “to protect our lives because we are not safe with the current situation, they are looking for us, we the suspended councilors”
