Five Killed, 10 Injured As Female Bomber Rocks Biu Market
Five persons were killed Thursday as a female bomber rocked the Biu Main Market in Borno State with explosives at about 3: 30pm, injuring 10 others.
A local resident who witnessed the bomb attack, Yusuf Gunda, noted that the bomber was seen trying to plant the explosives near the market and was challenged to drop what she was carrying. Gunda, who is a member of the youth vigilante, said as the woman was being questioned, she detonated the explosives, killing herself and four others instantly while 10 other persons were injured.
According to Gunda, “Ten persons were taken to the Biu General Hospital to receive treatment,” as security operatives were called in to ascertain the level of destruction.
A hospital source, craving anonymity, while confirming that 10 persons were brought in with varying degrees of injury, said: “I cannot however confirm the number of those that died in the incident as they were not brought here, but I learnt that they were five including the woman who was trying to plant the bomb.”
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Gideon Jibrin, could not also be reached for official confirmation of the incident as at the time of filing this report.
